Jean Kiekopf
Jean Kiekopf is a self-taught sculpture artist working in a range of materials and mediums.
She has recently started working in wax, creating collections of expressive horses and cats which are then majestically turned into bronze using the lost wax method at foundry. She is having some exciting results and in 2026 is releasing these collectable one-off pieces for purchase.
The ‘Fire Horse Collection’ presents equine lines and movement in finely crafted, energetic foundry bronze. Using this process each touch of a fingerprint or tool in the wax is captured forever in bronze to bring joy and wonder to the observer. Highly tactile, these bronzes will last for generations and are a true collector’s investment.
Jean’s sculptures explore and exaggerate movement and form and are influenced by her years of living and working across the globe: Australia, Africa, India, Borneo and South East Asia. Her initial explorations use a unique method which allows delicate recreation of the human and animal forms in single or group poses. These start with a simple wire or reinforced steel armature. Depending on the size and whether it is for indoors or outside.
If it is a standing piece, it will then be attached or welded to a wooden or steel base. The form is sculpted using either reinforced clay or waterproof and weather resistant plaster for outdoors.
In 2025 Jean undertook making an installation of 100 women for the charity Mortal and Strong. It consisted of 100 female figures each sporting Scars of Gold leaf to represent the 100 women’s health challenges.
Jean’s extensive travels and experience of living and working across four continents has influenced her reflective practice and creative prowess. She is bold in her design ideas and works tirelessly and with a love of sharing her visions. Her high levels of energy mean she is extremely prolific in her work and always exploring different techniques and materials to bring her conceptualised ideas to fruition.
