Graham Rider
Graham’s paintings now are mainly of the beach or landscape in what might be called a British Impressionist style. He aims to capture the “feel” of what it’s like to be in the open air.
Graham uses hog’s hair brushes and palette knives to try to create texture, and use more colour with uncomplicated compositions.
He has come to realise that people can have quite complex feelings about an image, and it reminds him of what he felt when he first saw paintings in galleries.
Graham feels that painting is not about producing just a visual record of what is there; it can be much more – a mediation of image through experience, with a spiritual perspective.
He’s inspired by the beaches and landscapes of Suffolk and Norfolk, particularly the coastaI fringes after spending some time on the beaches in the area in October 2024, where he was bowled over by the light, sound and wildlife.
