Ruth McCabe

Ruth McCabe

Ruth was grown in post war industrial Yorkshire, close to the remote Pennine moors landscape.

‘Even under grey skies’ (Collage 2025)

Some of her artwork, particularly the watercolours of the East Anglian coast, still resonate with that vast emptiness and solitude. People comment about the contemplative nature of this work.

‘Landmarks’

Her most recent collection of collaged work, is often a response to her favourite local places: Southwold Harbour where she loves the energy of dedicated work, of arrivals and leavings, and of the brilliant array of colours, moods, textures and shapes to be found.

‘Relationship: moving closer?’

Sketching with the subject is her starting point especially how it feels to be there. In the studio Ruth waits for a shape, colour or line to suggest itself. Staying with uncertainty and following the unfolding of ideas were skills she learnt and used in her career as a psychotherapist. These are now an invaluable and exciting element in the process of her work.

‘Relationship: drifting apart?’
